37% of brands work with 100+ influencers, up from 18% in 2024, according to Kolsquare's Budget Report (October 2026).

Gigapay is the Merchant of Record for creator payments. Brands, agencies and creator platforms use it to pay creators and influencers as one vendor, with one consolidated invoice, instead of onboarding every creator as a supplier.

Every extra creator adds a payee, a currency and a reporting record. This guide compares Gigapay, Lumanu, Trolley, Stripe Connect and Tipalti on model, DAC7, pricing and fit.

Key Takeaways

  • Gigapay ranks first for European creator platforms in our 2 November 2026 comparison.
  • Payment rails move money, while a Merchant of Record becomes the creator's counterparty.
  • Gigapay files DAC7 as the platform operator with Skatteverket.
  • Stripe Connect's EU list pricing costs about €49,200 a year for 1,000 monthly €400 payouts.
  • Building payouts in-house takes 4 to 18 months, according to The Software House (2026).

How Big Is the European Creator Economy in 2026?

Europe had 8.64 million income-generating creators, according to a Creator's Hub report covered by Net Influencer (May 2026). The same report values the European creator market at €28 billion in 2025, rising to €135 billion by 2032, citing Coherent Market Insights and BNP Paribas.

Brands are paying more of them, and paying smaller creators more. Kolsquare's Budget Report (October 2026) puts the median price of a micro-influencer collaboration at €3,000, up 200% in a year, and 89% of brands plan to raise influencer budgets in 2027.

For a platform, every one of those numbers turns into payouts, currencies and records your product has to handle.

Why Are Creator Payouts Harder for Platforms Than for Brands?

Creator payouts are harder for platforms because the payees are many, small and spread across countries. A brand pays its own roster, while a platform pays everyone its customers book.

Most creators are small payees

67% of creators earn less than $10,000 a year from content, and 62% say it is not their main income, according to CreatorIQ's The State of Creators 2026, a survey of 5,055 creators (August 2026). Small payees rarely have a company, a VAT number or an accounts team.

Platforms are already in the payment flow

39% of European brands use a dedicated influencer marketing platform, rising to 49% in France, according to Kolsquare and NewtonX's State of Influencer Marketing in Europe 2025 (November 2025). 34% of UK brands use affiliate-based payments, which platforms and networks usually calculate and pay.

Opaque fees are a known complaint

28% of European marketers named opaque fees as a pain point in the same Kolsquare and NewtonX study (November 2025). Your customers will compare your payout fees with the next platform's.

For your product team, payout quality now affects customer retention as much as finance workload.

What Is a Creator Payout API?

A creator payout API is an interface that lets a platform or marketplace onboard creators, approve amounts and trigger payments from inside its own product. The API replaces bank files, manual transfers and spreadsheet reconciliation.

Creator payout APIs come in two models, and the difference decides who the creator contracts with.

Payment rails

Payment rails move money from the platform, or its customer, to the creator. Stripe Connect, Trolley and Tipalti work this way, and the paying party stays the creator's counterparty and payer. Rails suit platforms with an engineering team and an in-house compliance process.

Merchant of Record

A Merchant of Record buys the creator's services in its own name and for its own account and resells them to its client. The client holds one vendor record and receives one consolidated invoice, and the Merchant of Record pays the creator. Gigapay and Lumanu both describe themselves as a Merchant of Record for creator payments.

What a good creator payout API includes

  • Creator onboarding with identity and tax-ID checks
  • Payouts in local currencies through local payment methods
  • Approval triggers, webhooks and payout status
  • Tax and platform reporting, including DAC7 in the EU
  • Invoicing or payment documentation for every payout

For your shortlist, decide on the model first, because it changes what the API has to do for you.

For your shortlist, the model column matters more than the reach column, because reach can be added and the model cannot.

1. Gigapay: Best Creator Payout API for European Platforms

Creator Payout APIs for Platforms and Marketplaces in Europe

Gigapay, founded in 2019 and based in Stockholm, ranks first in our comparison because it combines a Merchant of Record model, DAC7 filing and European creator platform partnerships.

How Gigapay works

  1. The client signs one Service Agreement with Gigapay and adds creators and amounts by spreadsheet upload, the app or the API.
  2. Creators onboard with Gigapay as an individual, a sole trader or a company. Gigapay runs identity and tax-ID checks at onboarding.
  3. When the client approves the work, Gigapay undertakes to buy the creator's services and issues the client a consolidated invoice.
  4. The creator claims the payout in Gigapay. At the claim, Gigapay buys the services and resells them to the client.
  5. The payout is executed by a licensed third-party payment provider.
  6. Gigapay reports the payment to Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency, which shares it with the creator's home tax authority.

Key features for platforms and marketplaces

  • API: Clients and platforms can integrate payouts through the Gigapay API in a week.
  • Creator onboarding: Creators onboard as individuals, sole traders or companies. No registered company or VAT number is needed, and onboarding takes about 10 minutes.
  • Paperwork: Gigapay handles the paperwork for every payout. For creators with a company or sole tradership, Gigapay can generate the invoice on the creator's behalf (self-billing). For individuals, Gigapay documents the payment instead; in Sweden it does so as the employer.
  • DAC7: Gigapay files DAC7 as the platform operator with Skatteverket.
  • One invoice: The client has one vendor record and receives one consolidated invoice per batch or campaign.
  • Currencies and speed: Gigapay pays in 50+ currencies. Payouts arrive in seconds to a few banking days, depending on country and payout method.
  • Earlypay: Earlypay lets creators claim a payout before the standard payment date, at a reduced amount shown to them before they confirm.
  • Germany: For German clients, Gigapay collects and shares the creator data needed to handle KSK obligations correctly.

Tax and reporting

For the creator's fee we're the payer, not you: we pay them and report the payment. Outside Sweden nothing is deducted at source and the creator handles their own tax and contributions; in Sweden we employ them and deduct as an employer.

Gigapay is the creator's counterparty and payer, so obligations that depend on being the payer stop attaching to you. Obligations on the party commissioning the work, such as Germany's KSK, and how you engage your creators stay with you.

Platforms and clients using Gigapay

Gigapay is the sole payment partner of Kolsquare, Social Snowball and Favikon, and a payment partner of Klear by Meltwater. Adrecord, The Goat Agency, Lyko and Nelly.com also use Gigapay.

Boozt ran 3x more collaborations without growing the team, Once Upon saved 25% of admin time, and WPP Media reports 80% fewer invoices, as published in their Gigapay case studies.

Gigapay pros

  • Gigapay buys the creator's services in its own name and for its own account, so the client holds one vendor record.
  • Gigapay files DAC7 as the platform operator with Skatteverket.
  • Creators onboard as individuals, sole traders or companies in about 10 minutes, with no VAT number needed.
  • Platforms can integrate payouts through the Gigapay API in a week.
  • One consolidated invoice per batch or campaign, with payouts in 50+ currencies.

Gigapay cons

  • Gigapay is built for creator and influencer payments, so it does not fit marketplaces paying goods sellers or property hosts.
  • Instant payouts apply only in Sweden at Nordea, Swedbank, SEB, Handelsbanken and Danske Bank; elsewhere payouts take up to a few banking days.

Best for

Influencer marketing platforms, affiliate networks, creator marketplaces, and esports and streaming networks that pay creators across Europe inside their product.

See the Supported Markets page for current coverage and the pricing page for pricing.

For a platform team, Gigapay means creator payouts ship as an embedded feature after about a week of API work.

2. Lumanu: Solid Merchant of Record for US-Heavy Rosters

Creator Payout APIs for Platforms and Marketplaces in Europe

Lumanu is a creator payments company that says it "acts as merchant of record in the US, the UK, and the 27 EU member states" (Lumanu blog, 16 October 2026). Its platforms page offers a developer-first API with webhooks and payouts over local rails such as ACH, SEPA and FAST in 180+ countries.

Key features

  • REST API for creator onboarding, tax forms and payouts, with documentation and environments
  • W-9 and W-8 collection and 1099 filing, according to Lumanu's developer overview (accessed November 2026)
  • Payouts "instantly in most corridors", plus an optional Instant Pay add-on, as Lumanu describes it (October 2026)
  • Platform partnership at no cost, with usage-based fees typically passed on to customers

Where Lumanu is strong, and why Gigapay ranks higher

Lumanu is a solid choice for platforms whose creators are mostly in the US, because its tax tooling is built around W-9, W-8 and 1099 workflows. Gigapay ranks higher for European platforms, because it files DAC7 as the platform operator with Skatteverket, runs a Swedish employment track and supplies the creator data German clients need for KSK. Gigapay is also the sole payment partner of Kolsquare, Social Snowball and Favikon, so its API already runs inside European creator platforms.

Lumanu pros

  • Merchant of Record model in the US, the UK and the EU, as Lumanu publishes it.
  • Developer API with webhooks, documentation and separate environments.
  • Payouts over local rails, including ACH, SEPA and FAST, in 180+ countries.

Lumanu cons

  • Pricing is usage-based and not published.
  • Public developer documentation centres on US tax forms such as W-9, W-8 and 1099.
  • Its platforms page does not mention DAC7, and its Merchant of Record blog does not name the receiving tax authority.

Best for

Creator platforms and agencies whose payees sit mostly in the US and Canada.

For a European platform, ask Lumanu in writing which authority receives its DAC7 filing before you compare price.

3. Trolley: Solid Payout Rails With DAC7 Tooling

Creator Payout APIs for Platforms and Marketplaces in Europe

Trolley is a payout platform that covers 210+ countries and territories and 135+ currencies, according to its creator payouts page (accessed November 2026). It lists creator and influencer platforms such as Upfluence, #paid and Ykone among its customers.

Key features

  • REST APIs, SDKs in 6 programming languages and a white-labelled embeddable widget
  • Bank transfers, PayPal, Venmo and checks as payout methods
  • W-9 and W-8BEN collection, 1099 and 1042-S e-filing, and DAC7 and OECD reporting support
  • Standard payouts plan from $2,399 a year, with FX at roughly 2% above wholesale rates

Trolley states that "certain payment services are provided by Trolley US Inc., a licensed money transmitter" (Trolley, accessed November 2026).

Where Trolley is strong, and why Gigapay ranks higher

Trolley is a solid option for platforms with engineers who want broad global reach and their own payout logic. Its DAC7 page says Trolley generates "the mandatory XML files ready to upload" to the platform's reporting agency, so the platform still files. Gigapay ranks higher for European creator platforms, because Gigapay files DAC7 as the platform operator with Skatteverket and becomes the creator's counterparty.

Trolley pros

  • Wide reach across 210+ countries and territories and 135+ currencies.
  • Developer tooling with REST APIs, SDKs in 6 languages and an embeddable widget.
  • DAC7 data collection and XML report generation.

Trolley cons

  • The platform uploads and files the DAC7 report itself.
  • FX runs at roughly 2% above wholesale rates, as Trolley publishes.
  • The platform or its customer stays the creator's counterparty and payer.

Best for

Platforms with in-house engineering and compliance teams that pay creators worldwide.

For your build plan, count the hours your team will spend on DAC7 files each January, not only the API work.

4. Stripe Connect: Solid Rails for Platforms Already on Stripe

Creator Payout APIs for Platforms and Marketplaces in Europe

Stripe Connect is Stripe's product for platforms and marketplaces that route payments to connected accounts. Stripe publishes Irish list pricing of €2 per monthly active account and 0.25% + €0.10 per payout (Stripe Connect pricing, accessed November 2026).

Key features

  • Hosted, embedded or API-led onboarding for connected accounts
  • Cross-border payouts from 0.25% of volume and Instant Payouts at 1%
  • Funds routing and platform management at 0.25% of payout volume
  • Platform tax reporting for the EU, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, in private preview

Where Stripe Connect is strong, and why Gigapay ranks higher

Stripe Connect is a solid choice when your platform already takes payments on Stripe, because pay-ins and payouts share one integration and published pricing. Stripe's platform tax reporting docs say the service excludes Poland, and that "Stripe accepts no liability for the use of information collected or reports generated" (accessed November 2026).

Gigapay ranks higher for creator payouts, because creators onboard without a company or VAT number and Gigapay files DAC7 as the platform operator with Skatteverket.

Stripe Connect pros

  • Published EU list pricing that platforms can model before a sales call.
  • Large developer documentation and tooling base.
  • One provider for customer payments and creator payouts.

Stripe Connect cons

  • Several fees stack: active accounts, per payout, funds routing and cross-border.
  • The DAC7 reporting tool is in private preview and excludes Poland.
  • The platform builds and runs its own compliance and creator support processes.

Best for

Marketplaces that already process customer payments on Stripe and have a payments engineering team.

For your finance model, add every Connect fee line together, then add engineering and compliance time.

5. Tipalti: Solid AP Suite With Mass Payments

Creator Payout APIs for Platforms and Marketplaces in Europe

Tipalti is a finance automation company whose Mass Payments product pays partners in 200+ countries and territories and 120 currencies, according to its mass payments page (accessed November 2026). It lists customers such as Create Music Group, Splice, DistroKid and Roblox.

Key features

  • 50+ payment methods, including SEPA, BACS, PayPal and SWIFT
  • RESTful APIs, a branded iFrame payee portal and ERP connections
  • Tax form collection covering W-9, W-8, VAT and DAC7 reporting
  • Self-billing that generates itemised invoices on payees' behalf

Where Tipalti is strong, and why Gigapay ranks higher

Tipalti is a solid fit for finance-led marketplaces that want payouts inside a wider accounts payable suite. Gigapay ranks higher for creator platforms, because it is built only for creator payments, onboards creators in about 10 minutes and issues one consolidated invoice per batch or campaign. Gigapay also becomes the creator's counterparty, while Tipalti's customers remain the payer.

Tipalti pros

  • Wide reach across 200+ countries and territories, 120 currencies and 50+ payment methods.
  • Self-billing and approval workflows that sync to ERP systems.
  • Tax engine covering US, UK, EU and Canadian forms and reports.

Tipalti cons

  • Mass Payments starts at $249 a month, and transaction fees are not published.
  • The product is built around accounts payable, which adds setup for a creator-only use case.
  • The paying platform remains the payer and DAC7 filer.

Best for

Marketplaces and ad or affiliate networks that want creator payouts inside one AP and finance system.

For your finance team, Tipalti makes most sense when creator payouts are one part of a larger AP project.

How Much Do Creator Payout APIs Cost in 2026?

Creator payout API costs have three parts: the provider's fees, currency conversion and your team's time. Only Stripe Connect publishes enough to model fees from list prices alone.

Worked example: 1,000 creators a month on Stripe Connect

A platform paying 1,000 creators €400 each per month moves €400,000. At Stripe's Irish list prices under the "You handle pricing" model, that is €2,000 in active-account fees, €1,100 in per-payout fees and €1,000 in funds-routing fees. The total is about €4,100 a month, or €49,200 a year, before cross-border fees from 0.25%, FX, engineering and compliance work.

For your margin model, compare the full cost per payout, including team hours, rather than the headline rate.

Should You Build Creator Payouts In-House or Use an API?

Building creator payouts in-house takes 4 to 18 months to a production-ready first version, according to The Software House (June 2026). The same analysis puts EU payment licensing at 6 to 9 months in most jurisdictions, and SEPA support alone at 8 to 12 weeks.

Two senior engineers at the European median cost €177,292 a year in pay. Over a 4 to 18 month build, that is about €59,000 to €266,000 before the first payout, excluding employer costs, compliance and creator support.

What you still own after launch

A built system needs identity and tax-ID checks, creator invoicing, reconciliation, DAC7 data and support for creators asking where their money is. Those tasks continue every month after launch.

For your roadmap, decide whether payouts are your product or a feature your customers expect to work.

Which EU Rules Affect Creator Payout APIs in 2026?

Three EU and national rules shape creator payouts for platforms in 2026. Each is general information with an official source, not Gigapay's position, except where stated.

DAC7 platform reporting

DAC7, Council Directive (EU) 2021/514, requires digital platform operators to report information about sellers, including those providing personal services, to EU tax authorities. Reports for each calendar year are due by 31 January, according to BDO (January 2026).

A platform that pays creators for personal services in the EU may itself be a reporting platform operator under DAC7. DAC7 is separate from VAT, and creators still declare their own income.

The EU Platform Work Directive

Directive (EU) 2024/2831 must be transposed into national law by 2 December 2026, according to Littler (August 2026). It introduces a rebuttable presumption of employment for platform workers and rules on automated decision-making. How you engage your creators stays your responsibility.

Germany's KSK levy

The Künstlersozialabgabe applies to companies that commission freelance artists and publicists, at a 4.9% rate for 2026, according to Deutsche Rentenversicherung. KSK attaches to the client commissioning the work, and Gigapay supplies the creator data its German clients need.

For your legal team, ask each provider in writing which of these duties it carries and which stay with you.

How to Choose a Creator Payout API: 8 Questions to Ask

These questions apply to every provider on this list. The answers show where the work and the paperwork will sit.

  1. Who is the creator's counterparty: your platform, your customer or the provider?
  2. Does the provider file DAC7 itself, or generate files for you to file?
  3. Can creators onboard without a registered company or VAT number?
  4. How many invoices will your customers' finance teams receive per batch?
  5. Which currencies and markets does the API pay out to today?
  6. How long does integration take, and is there a test environment?
  7. What are the full fees, including FX, minimums and add-ons?
  8. How long do payouts take, by country and payout method?

Questions 1 and 2 matter most, because they decide where documentation and reporting duties sit. For your RFP, ask for every answer in writing and keep it with the contract.

How to Integrate a Creator Payout API in 5 Steps

A payout integration goes faster when product, finance and legal agree the flow before engineering starts.

  1. Map your payout flows: List who approves payments, which currencies you pay and which markets your creators live in.
  2. Agree the counterparty model: Confirm with legal whether you want rails or a Merchant of Record.
  3. Build onboarding into your product: Send creators to the provider's onboarding from your creator dashboard.
  4. Connect approvals to payouts: Trigger the payout from the same event that approves the creator's work.
  5. Test with one customer first: Run one campaign or one month in parallel, then roll out to the rest.

For Gigapay, platforms can integrate payouts through the Gigapay API in a week. For your engineering plan, keep payouts behind one internal service so you can change provider without touching the product.

Which Creator Payout API Fits Your Platform Type?
